Picasa: Share, organize and edit your photos
Picasa is Goggle’s Photographic portal, for organizing and editing digital photos. After acquiring from Idelab in 2004, Google began offering Picasa for free download in Google Pack. Picasa is free photo organizer with which you can share your photos with friends and family.
Picasa supports for Windows XP and Windows Vista, Linux and it is also available through Google Labs. Older version is available for Windows 98 and Windows ME. For Mac OS X 10.4 and later iPhoto plug-in or standalone program is available for uploading photos.
Picasa has photo importing and tracking feature for organization and editing of photos; if you wish to make some further sorting there are features like tags and collection. Picasa has some basic photo editing features tools for color enhancement, red eye reduction and you can even crop the photographs. For photo viewing, you have the option of slide shows, image timelines. For email or printing the pictures, you can reduce the file size and you can even set up the page layouts. Integrated online photo printing services are also available in Picasa.
Picasa creates its own files named picasa.ini files, these are useful to keep track of keywords; also IPTC keyword data is also attached to JPG files. You can read these files with IPTC keywords using library software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Album or Adobe bridges, digicam and iPhotos. Picasa can also parse the XMP data, but it can’t search local files which has existing XMP keywords.
Once you have downloaded the Picasa; it organizes your entire collection; it automatically sorts them in different categories. You can use album collection to tag your photos and Picasa will do further grouping. You can easily view and share photos under one group; you can make great slide shows and movies. You an even adds star rating to your favorite photos, it will turn your favorite photos into visual standout at a glance. If you wish to keep all these collections to yourself you can create password protected collections.
Editing the photos: There are some buttons under the category Basic Fixes. These buttons help you to fast and easy crop, red eye reduction, contrast and color and it also enhances the digital pictures. Picasa also has some visual effects that improve your photos just in few seconds. Using IPTC standards Google Picasa makes captions; these allow captions to stay within the pictures. Even if you export such photos with caption to web page or CD, captions will be there with the photos. All these captions will be easily editable and searchable. You can zoom, pan or tilt your photos until you get that perfect angle.
Share your Photos: Whenever you want to share your photos with someone difficult part is to decide which photos to send. Picasa re-sizes and attaches the photos to email in such suitable size that your friend can easily open those photos. You can put your photos on your own site. Just select the photos and now click share and publish in seconds. You can even make beautiful slide show and then you can even share this slide show on CD.
